New radios to provide better service
The White River Township Fire Department recently received a federal grant from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $218,900 for new radio equipment. The money will be used to purchase new digital radios to replace the department's existing analog equipment. "All radios, both handhelds and mobile units, will be replaced", said Mike Combs, the department's Communications Director. "This is all in an effort for the department to keep up with newer technology as well as add additional functionality to the current radio system", he added. The new equipment should be arriving within the coming weeks but will still need to be programmed. The programming and subsequent training sessions should take about another month before the new radios are put in service.
