Call volume drops second straight year

Even with hundreds of new residents, multiple new businesses, and ever-increasing pass-through traffic counts, the call volume for the White River Township Fire Department has dropped for the second straight year in a row.  Call volumes had been increasing each and every year at a steady rate up until last year when they dropped slightly for the first time.  Even though this year's drop was also insignificant, the department attributes this to its aggressive fire prevention strategies.  Through tough adherence to the latest building codes, public education courses such as CPR and first-aid, and a heavy presence at many different levels in childhood education, the department has worked tirelessly in its pursuit for a safer community.  The department plans to continue these endeavors with even more new programs and more awareness initiatives throughout the district in 2006 as well as in the years to come.

The final call tally for 2005 was 1,614 calls, of which 590 were fire-related responses and the rest, or 1,024 were medical-related.  This compares to a total of 1,626 calls for aid in 2004.
