Toy Drive 'wrapping up'; 35 families to benefit
Members of the White River Township Fire Department, their families, and student from Center Grove Middle School North helped wrap Christmas presents at the finale of the 2005 toy drive. The toy drive, which is held every year at the Meijer store on State Road 135, has helped this year to provide toys and clothing to 35 families, and nearly 100 needy children throughout the township.
Today will “wrap up” the 2005 Annual Children's Toy Drive with stacks of Christmas gifts being wrapped for children in the White River community. The Johnson County United Way, Meijer, Center Grove School Corporation, and the White River Township Fire Department have teamed up for the fifth year in a row to help collect, wrap, and deliver Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the fire district. The United Way collects names of those individuals who may be in need of some help with the holidays and then forwards the list to the fire department. Firefighters then spend two week-ends early in December collecting gifts, earmarked for specific children, at the Meijer store in Greenwood. All of the gifts are then wrapped at a "wrapping party" and then delivered via fire truck during the week before Christmas. This year, the campaign helped 100 children in 35 families which met the goal of 100% of the names sponsored. Special thanks to all those who helped make this year an overwhelming success, especially Sean Nash with the Meijer Store, the Johnson County United Way, and Center Grove Middle School North. Gift will be delivered beginning December 20th.
