Still-hot mower causes blaze
Yard clippings and a hot lawn mower sparked a garage fire in Bargersville on Sunday, Bargersville Fire Department officials said. Herb Sauter, 3969 Honey Creek Blvd., said he finished mowing his lawn and put his lawn tractor away in the home’s garage while he returned to the yard to do some chores. When he came back to the garage at about 2:55 p.m., the structure was on fire, according to Bargersville Fire Department Division Chief Mike Pruitt. No one was injured.
Fire officials suspect that some items from
Sauter’s lawn, either grass or leaves, made contact with something hot on the
lawnmower, starting the fire. The blaze took about 15 minutes to control
and was contained to the garage, though Sauter’s home sustained slight smoke
damage, Pruitt said. Two cars were being housed in the garage. Both were
still drivable but had smoke and fire damage. The White River Township
Fire Department assisted in containing the fire.
