Firefighters return from hurricane area

All three White River firefighters who responded to the Gulf States region for hurricane disaster recovery efforts are now back home.  While part-time Fire Inspector Steve Coover returned a week ago, Firefighter/Engineers Tony Slusher and Jory Cox both returned last evening.  All three are now back at home with their families and plan to return to work immediately.

The trio were sent down within days of the Hurricane Katrina strike as part of a FEMA task force to help those in need in the disaster area.  Each of their jobs varied greatly over the course of the thirty-five to forty days they were there.  The provided EMS, resource distribution, security, and other necessary jobs assigned by FEMA as they were warranted.  "It was a great experience helping people in need, but it sure is good to be back home", said Jory Cox as he returned to work Monday morning.

A Blog site was set up to track the group's daily progress as they reported in from the field.  That site can be accessed by clicking HERE.  Also, see related stories HERE and HERE.
