Fire Prevention Week under way

Fire Prevention Week officially kicked off yesterday and the White River Township Fire Department was already busy visiting each of the district's five elementary schools.  Each school will be visited, one school for each of the five school days, to deliver the department's fire prevention message.  Firefighters will also have lunch with the students allowing them to ask questions and interact on a one-on-one basis.

Fire Prevention Week, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association, runs from October 9th through the 15th and this year's campaign is "Use Candles with Care".  Candles may look nice, but they’re a growing fire threat in our communities.  And knowing the facts about candles is a key to fire safety.  Additionally, roughly 70 percent of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms are the great safety success story of the 20th century — but only when they're working properly.  For more information on this year's campaign as well as other fire safety information, visit the National Fire Protection Association's web site by clicking HERE.

An open house at the White River Township Fire Department Headquarters building is scheduled for Wednesday evening from 5pm to 8pm.  Click HERE to view a flyer for more information.
