Archival project finally complete
After nearly seven years of cutting, pasting, scanning, and typing, the long-awaited completion of the department's historical archive project has finally been attained. What started as a small project back in 1998 by the department's Auxiliary Division, quickly blossomed into a mammoth undertaking by a small group of dedicated individuals. The idea was simple; catalog the department's history in a format that could be preserved indefinitely. This meant the thousands of photos and news stories collected by various members over the years would need to be catalogued, copied, and transferred to a digital medium. This process took nearly seven years and countless hours to complete, although most of the project was completed during highly-valuable down time as the project was not part of any specific individual's assigned task. In all, the project encompassed nearly 1,000 news stories and over 3,000 photographs. All of the stories and photos are cataloged by year and date of publication. They can be accessed by clicking the link HERE or visiting the News Archive page manually by clicking in the menu bar above and selecting "News Archive" in the dropdown under "About Us".
The department would like to thank Kim Clawson, Amy Brown, Marian Hart, Carla Slauter, Anna Marsh, James Meacham, Kevin Skipper, Jackie Emmons, Scott Cassin, and Mike Combs for their contributions toward the project.
Also
completed is the department's apparatus and vehicle history page. Take a
look back at each of the department's 22 pieces of equipment that are no longer
owned by the department. A photo of each piece along with its title and
service years is listed. This page can be accessed by clicking
HERE or clicking the link on the main
page just above the building links.
