SUV hits tree head-on

The White River Township Fire Department responded to the area of 571 San Ricardo Drive on a vehicle crash earlier today.  Upon arrival of the accident, firefighters found a vehicle that had crashed head-on into a tree.  Sheriff’s deputies had already arrived on the scene and had the driver of the SUV in their police car questioning him.  Preliminary reports indicate the driver may have been under the influence of a medication, according to the deputies at the scene.  Due to the possible mechanism of injury involved in the accident, the driver was transported to Community Hospital South to be checked out as a precaution.  The vehicle first ran into trouble at San Marcos and San Ricardo after hitting a stop sign and several mail boxes.  The vehicle then continued on and hit a parked pick-up truck in front of 471 San Ricardo and eventually slid into a tree at 571 San Ricardo.  The driver, a teenager, was approximately 18 years of age.  The name and actual age of the driver and his status at the hospital were unavailable at press time.  Report submitted by Battalion Chief James Engmark, C-Shift.
