Gas main feeds early morning fire
Firefighters from White River Township were summoned to the Friendly Village Mobile Home Park on a reported mobile home fire in the area of N Court earlier this morning. Engine 52 arrived within five minutes reporting a heavily involved vehicle fire and partially involved trailer with probable extension into the home. Engine 52 then reported the vehicle had struck the gas meter, snapping it off and erupting into flames. Hose streams were deployed on both sides of the fire and to the trailer's interior to control the flames. After approximately forty minutes, the flames were extinguished and the gas leak was controlled. Fire apparatus remained on the scene for approximately two additional hours assisting the gas company and the occupants of the home. Although the trailer itself was heavily damaged by the fire, the fire was quickly controlled and therefore the occupants were able to salvage all of their possessions. The cause of the fire was determined to be the result of an alleged intoxicated driver who crashed into the trailer while attempting to allude the police. Twenty Firefighters from White River Township responded utilizing two engines, two tankers, one rescue squad, one support unit, and two chief officers. The Franklin Township Fire Department of Marion County also provided one tanker due to diminished water pressure in the area at the time of the fire. Story submitted by Battalion Chief Jeff Wilson, B-Shift.
