Members serve up shortcakes
Local 4252 Union members from the White River Township Fire Department, along with friends, colleagues, and spouses, served up nearly 1,000 strawberry shortcakes at a recent ice cream social in Indianapolis. The event was held in conjunction with an antique car show being held on the same evening at the Marriott Hotel at 21st and Shadeland Avenue. The event was originally scheduled to be held outdoors but due to heavy rains was moved indoors.
All of the
shortcakes were pre-sold and then served to order over a two-hour time period.
"The event went really well" remarked Lieutenant Mark Hart. "Although we
had a tremendous order of over a thousand to serve in a very short time frame,
everyone worked well together and got the job done", he added. Serving
strawberry shortcakes is nothing new to the department though, as members are
used to selling around 2,500 of them during the department's two-day Strawberry
Festival held each June. See a follow-up story HERE. For more information on the annual Strawberry
Festival, click HERE.
