Automobile accident traps victim
The
White River Township Fire Department responded to an automobile accident at
County Line Road and Morgantown Road Friday afternoon at approximately 4:30pm.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found a small SUV that had struck a
utility pole with heavy damage to the front of the vehicle. The driver was
trapped in the vehicle as a result of the impact that caused the dash to be
pushed down onto the driver's legs. Rescue crews and firefighters had to
use the Hurst Equipment (Jaws of Life) to cut the victim out of the vehicle.
Also when firefighters arrived they were met by some bystanders who had a small
child that the driver had handed out the window to them. The child
appeared to have minor injuries and was transported to Methodist Hospital to be
treated. The driver, who was from Indianapolis, was not critically injured
but was transported to Methodist Hospital as well. In addition to the
difficult extrication of the victim, firefighters had to fight the high
temperatures outside as well that were well above 90 degrees. No other
information was available on the patients at press time. Story submitted
by Battalion Chief James Engmark, C-Shift.
