Driver crashes into vacationing family's home

A motorist drove off the road and crashed into a White River Township garage then tried to run to his home down the street, police said.  James Ryan Takacs, 19, of 4736 Silver Hill Drive, was arrested Monday night on charges of operating while intoxicated, failing to stop after an accident and resisting law enforcement.  Takacs is being held at the Johnson County jail on $5,000 bond.

About 9:45 p.m., a witness who lives nearby called police and reported that a blue truck had crashed into a house at 4787 Silver Hill Drive and the person driving had run off, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.  Deputies located Takacs in a yard about 300 yards to the east.  When the teen tried to flee, Deputy Eric Cox tackled and handcuffed him, according to the report. Before being put into a jail van, Takacs was yelling and swearing at police, the report said.  Takacs told police he had smoked mushrooms and marijuana during the day, the report said.  An investigation of the scene showed the motorist drove through two yards, barely missing two trees before striking the garage and damaging the car inside.  The homeowners are in Florida but have been notified of the incident, the police report said.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
