Firefighters read to students
Firefighters from
the White River Township Fire Department visited Sugar Grove Elementary
today to read books to several first graders. The event today was in
celebration of the 101st birthday of Dr. Seuss.
Firefighters went to several classrooms to read to the first graders who
were all dressed in their pajamas for the day. The first graders all
looked very comfortable and were ready to listen to the firefighters read.
Six first grade classrooms participated in today’s activity. “The
firefighters really enjoyed reading to the kids today and some even wore Dr.
Seuss hats while they read” said Battalion Chief Jim Engmark. “ A couple of
the firefighters even told the kids that if they knew the kids were going to
be in their pajamas that they, (the firefighters) would have worn their
pajamas”, Engmark said. The kids really did enjoy the reading, and the
firefighters plan on doing a lot more of this type of activity with the
Center Grove Elementary schools in the future.
