Civilian rescuer receives award

The American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis honored eighty-six community heroes earlier today who exemplified the spirit of the worldwide Red Cross movement by selflessly risking their lives to save or try and save the lives of others.  Among those honored were several firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and civilians.  One civilian that was honored was Josh Chrenko of Mooresville.  Josh selflessly risked his life by trying to rescue a young female from a vehicle that crashed into a large pond off of Demaree Road in White River Township in early November.  Josh dove into the water, and tried to rescue the female despite the fact that the vehicle was completely submerged.  Although the attempt was unsuccessful, Josh risked his life to save another.  It takes a lot of courage to do what Josh did and was thereby recognized for his selfless act.  Story by Battalion Chief James Engmark, C-Shift
