Floods hit Central Indiana

Record-level flooding has once again taken over Central Indiana.  After a near record snowfall the day before Christmas, heavy rains have since moved into the area.  Couple that with very warm air that melted the snow and then add in about 4 inches of rain, you get a major flood.  The result was flooded yards and water spilling onto roads, causing nearly a dozen street closings and nine high-water danger areas on area roads.  No major home damage was reported as of Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has extended the flood warning until Friday morning.  The East Fork of the White River is not expected to crest until Tuesday, January 11th.  It is expected to crest at 19ft.  Flood stage is 14ft in the Waverly/Centerton area.  As of this morning, the White River Township Fire Department has responded to two water-related emergencies and several other non-emergent public assistance calls as a result of the inclement weather.
