Haz-Mat spill injures one

One man was seriously burned today after a chemical spilled from the truck in which he was off-loading at the Bargersville Water Treatment facility on Smith Valley Road.  The driver of a tanker delivery truck was attempting to free a frozen valve when when over three thousand gallons of liquid caustic soda began to spill on the ground.  The driver was making a routine delivery of the chemical that is used at the water treatment facility there.  The man was treated and transported to Wishard Hospital for his burns.  Firefighters from White River and Greenwood fire departments contained the leak and then called a certified spill recovery team to clean up the spill.  Crews were on the scene for almost three hours.  Clean up of the spill by the spill recovery team could take up to a couple of days.
