Fire Prevention Week under way

Fire Prevention Week officially kicked off yesterday and the White River Township Fire Department was already busy visiting each of the district's five elementary schools.  Each school will be visited, one school for each of the five school days, to deliver the department's fire prevention message.

Fire Prevention Week, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association, runs from October 3rd through the 9th and this year's campaign is "Test Your Detectors".  Roughly 70 percent of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms are the great safety success story of the 20th century — but only when they're working properly.
