Girl taken to hospital after being hit by car

An 8-year old White River Township girl was struck by a car Tuesday night and rushed to Wishard Hospital.  Asia N. Woodruff, of the 1400 block of South Morgantown Road, reportedly had been playing basketball across the street from her home when she ran back across the roadway about 7 p.m.  The driver of the southbound 1994 Chevrolet Corsica, Susan M. Achgill, 46, reported that the child darted into her path and she couldn't stop in time to avoid a collision.  Woodruff was unconscious and transported to Wishard.  A hospital spokeswoman said it cannot release patient conditions for minors.  An eyewitness told Johnson County Sheriff's deputies that the Chevrolet was not speeding and the driver could not have avoided the child.
