Fire damages home
The
White River Township Fire Department responded to a residence fire this morning
that moderately damaged a home at 3078 West Smith Valley Road. A neighbor
called 911 at 1:58 a.m. who saw smoke coming from the home's roof. There
were three occupants inside at the time who all escaped unharmed. The fire
was contained primarily to the attic but smoke and some water damage was
prevalent throughout. Because of multiple hot spots and blown-in cellulose
insulation, much of the ceiling had to be removed in order to extinguish the
smoldering material. The fire was extinguished within 13 minutes of the
call. Greenwood Fire Department and Perry Twp Fire Department assisted
with one engine each. The cause of the fire was determined to be an
overheated wire in the attic from an overloaded circuit.
