Greenwood teen killed in wreck
An 18-year-old Greenwood woman was killed in an automobile accident Sunday afternoon on Fry Road. Lindsay Ann Allen, 18, died at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 4:28 p.m. Sunday just east of State Road 135. Allen was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by her boyfriend, Nicholas Farrand, 22, Greenwood. Farrand was taken to Methodist Hospital and suffered minor scrapes and bruises, according to officer Jeff Houchins. The couple was returning from an afternoon Colts game in Indianapolis and was headed to a family Christmas gathering, Greenwood police officer Bryan Long said. Farrand’s Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on Fry Road in the S curve, approaching State Road 135, when the vehicle left the roadway on the north side and struck a tree. Houchins said Farrand told police he and Allen had been arguing over minor, petty issues. Farrand told police he was paying more attention to Allen than he was to his driving, and when the vehicle left the roadway, he was unable to recover it. Police officers and emergency medical workers who responded to the scene reported smelling alcohol on Farrand, and he told police he had been drinking beer earlier in the day, the report said. Police found a red cooler with one empty Bud Light can and 11 unopened cans. Police were unable to have Farrand perform field sobriety tests on the scene because he was strapped to a backboard and a Rural/Metro ambulance was taking him to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Houchins said. Medical workers drew his blood at 5:25 p.m. Sunday to test for alcohol consumption, but the results were not available on Monday evening. Police interviewed Farrand at the hospital, but he has not been arrested or charged in the crash. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
