Fire evacuates ball game

       A malfunctioning light at Mount Pleasant Christian Church’s gym prompted the evacuation of about 300 people during a youth basketball game Saturday.  White River Township firefighters were summoned to the church, at 381 N. Bluff Road in Greenwood, at 8:59 a.m.  A fluorescent light in the church’s gym overheated and broke, dripping plastic on the carpet below and filling the gym and some hallways with smoke, Lt. Jim Engmark said.  Church workers used fire extinguishers to put out any fire, Engmark said.  No serious damage occurred.  People returned to the church after about an hour, he said.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
