Fire destroys house under construction

The White River Township Fire Department responded to an early morning fire that destroyed a two-story home currently under construction in the Walnut Woods Subdivision.  According to Battalion Chief Carey Slauter, the fire at 399 Southwind Way was already well-involved throughout much of the house upon the first arriving units.  The fire apparently had been burning for quite some time.  The department was dispatched at 5:24 a.m. and arrived four minutes later at 5:28 a.m.  Additional fire equipment and manpower was immediately summoned from Greenwood, Bargersville, and Decatur Township Fire Departments to help fight the fire in sub-freezing temperatures.  Other than ice caused by the subsequent water flow, weather was not a factor.  Madison Township and Perry Township Fire Departments sent apparatus to back-fill the White River fire stations during the incident.  The home, estimated to be around $260,000, was currently under construction and was about a month from completion.   The home was a total loss.  No information on the cause was available at press time as the investigation team was still on the scene.
