Fireplace starts WRT blaze; no one injured

A gas fireplace sparked a blaze in a White River Township home Friday morning.  A small fire likely burned for more than an hour in the attic of the home in the Pebble Hills subdivision off Fairview Road, said Eric Brown, division chief for the White River Township Fire Department.  A resident of the home in the 4200 block of Valley Way Drive called firefighters at 8:32 a.m. when she saw smoke and heard popping noises inside the walls of the one-story home.  Firefighters arrived in time to cover furniture and other household belongings with a tarp to save them from some smoke and water damage, Brown said.  The flue of the gas fireplace ignited ductwork in the attic, Brown said.  Firefighters estimate the home’s damage at $60,000 to $65,000. No injuries were reported. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
