Chief of Operations accepted into EFOP

The White River Twp Fire Dept would like to commend Chief Carey Slauter, Chief of Operations, for being accepted into the Executive Fire Officers Program (EFOP). This is an elite program for experienced fire officers and is considered the Masters Degree of the fire service. The program is a (4) four year program, which is based in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The program is (2) two weeks a year for four years. After completion of the program, Carey will have to complete an Applied Research Project within (6) six months. The criteria to be accepted into the program is an Associates degree or greater, to be a chief officer with a fire department, and be recommended by the Chief of department. The program has limited capacity of participants each year, so generally is not an easy program to get into.

Carey Slauter is currently Chief of Operations with the White River Twp Fire Department.  He started in 1984 as a Cadet while still in high school.  Carey later joined the department as a member in 1987 and then was promoted to the full-time Operations Chief in 2001.  Carey also served with the Avon Fire Department from 1993-2001, where he was a Chief Shift Officer (Battalion Chief).  Carey’s duties for White River Twp Fire Department include overall operations of the department, overseeing policies and procedures of the department, and serving as liaison with the Office Of Homeland Security.  Carey has an Associates degree in fire science and is a certified Paramedic locally as well as nationally.
