Scout creates picnic area to earn Eagle rank
Jacob Jeffries, 18, of Boy Scout Troop 245 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He will be honored at a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church. Jeffries' service project was to acquire donations, buy materials and construct a picnic area at the White River Township fire Department Headquarters at 850 S. Mullinix Road for use by school children on field trips and by the firefighters. Leading 20 Scouts and 15 adults, he cleared almost an acre of wooded land with overgrown shrubs, small trees and weeds and planted grass seed and constructed a fence and small bridge and built two fire pits. The project was three months in the planning and completed in one day. He has been on several adventure trips with Scouts. A senior at Center Grove High School, he is the son of Jesse Wayne and Carolyn Jeffries. He plans to enter the wildlife program at Purdue University next fall.
