Community to clean up center

Residents in the Smith Valley area are rallying to once again return the community center back into a useable facility.  The building has largely been neglected since the early 1990's when it was last regularly used.  The building was originally built around 1950 and was site of the first fire station in White River Township.  The Smith Valley Volunteer Fire Department later moved to a new building on Runyon Road and changed its name to White River Township Fire Department, as it is today.  Organizers are looking for volunteers to help clean up the site and make building repairs.  The first "work day" is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2003 and volunteers are asked to bring their own tools and equipment to help out.
