Infant's life hangs in balance
An infant remains in critical condition following a
serious accident on State Road 37 on Thursday.
Megan Sarkine, 6 months, is in the intensive care unit at Methodist
Hospital. The infant was properly
restrained in the vehicle driven by here baby sitter but was injured when the
driver pulled out in front of a rock-hauling truck at Stones Crossing Road,
Indiana State Trooper E.W. Flick said. “It’s
still touch and go with the little baby,” flick said.
Sarkine was a back-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Nyla Crosley,
44. The woman was in good condition
at Methodist on Friday. She was not wearing her seat belt, Flick said.
Her husband, front-seat passenger Stephen Crosley, 44, was also injured.
All three are from Brooklyn in Morgan County.
Crosley’s vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, was heading west on Stones
Crossing about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. She
failed to yield right of way, and the car was struck by the northbound truck,
driven by Allen Brown, 38, Indianapolis. Brown
was not injured, but Flick said both drivers were extremely upset by the
infant’s injuries. The car landed
in a drainage ditch on the west side of the highway.
The adults were trapped in the vehicle for about 20 minutes.
