Boy Scout works on Eagle Scout project

       Jacob Jeffries along with several other boy scouts worked all day on creating a picnic area at the fire department's headquarters at 850 S. Mullinix Road on Saturday.  The project was part of Jacob's Eagle Scout endeavor.  The project consisted of clearing a heavily wooded area at the back of the fire department's property and building a couple of picnic tables and a foot bridge across a drainage swale.  The area was then graded smooth and grass seed was planted.  The day also included pizza for everyone including the on-duty firefighting crew at the fire station.  Jacob and his crew worked the entire day cutting up fallen trees, removing dead limbs, and clearing thick underbrush.  "It was quite an undertaking" said Battalion Chief Joel Thacker.  "They did an unbelievably fantastic job" he added.  Jacob came to the fire department several months earlier and asked if he could pursue his Eagle Scout project by creating the picnic area for the firefighters and their families.  Once permission was granted, Jacob immediately began working on blueprints and securing his help and supplies.  His assistants on the project consisted of other boy scouts that were congruently working on badges of their own.  The day was very productive and the project was completed as designed and on schedule.  The fire department greatly appreciates the area, and in fact has already used it during the recent beautiful weather.
