WRT firefighters help needy kids

White River Township firefighters will continue collecting gifts for needy children this weekend.  For the second year in a row, firefighters have collected donations at the township’s fire stations and at the Meijer store on State Road 135 in Greenwood. The presents will be donated this Christmas to 150 children identified by the United Way of Johnson County and local churches.  On Monday afternoon, firefighters will spend more than $2,000 buying presents at Wal-Mart for children who still need toys. They raised the money through a breakfast and a $1,000 gift from Wal-Mart, Lt. Jim Engmark said.  This weekend, firefighters will continue collecting toys at the Meijer store from 9 am, to noon and from 5 to 8 p.m.  Any new gift for a child is acceptable, Engmark said.  Lt. Steve Rowland began the toy drive last year, and firefighters continued the work this year.  Information: 888-8337.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
