Firefighters douse blaze in WRT home
A White River Township family has been temporarily displaced after fire broke out in the home’s chimney early Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to a home owned by Philip Franklin at 4257 Hunters Ridge Lane in the Hunter’s Point subdivision at 12:28 a.m. Wednesday. The subdivision is near Olive Branch and Runyon roads. Fire from the chimney of a living room fireplace spread through a wall and into the ceiling, and firefighters had to tear down a wall to fight the blaze. No injuries were reported, said Eric Brown, White River Township Fire Department division chief. Firefighters were on the scene for more than 90 minutes, Brown said. Although damage is extensive, the home is repairable, Brown said. Earlier in the evening, firefighters responded to a condominium fire after cigarette ashes ignited trash. Fire began burning up a wall about 5:39 p.m. Tuesday at 1709 Pathway in the Ashwood condominiums, Brown said. A resident had emptied an ashtray into a wastebasket about an hour earlier. The condominium is owned by Suella Ramsey. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
