In the trenches

        In the photo below, White River Township Fire Department firefighters Mark Hart, foreground in the trench, and Jake Kocher, standing left at ground level, are trench rescue training on Stones Crossing Road at the site where the township trustee plans to build a township government center. Workers will often dig trenches when excavating at home or other developing properties. Workers then get into the trench to install pipes. If the dirt walls would cave in, firefighters would be called to the scene to rescue the trapped workers. Such a rescue takes a lot of manpower, Lt.
