Firefighters compete in contest

Three firefighters and one cadet participated in a watermelon eating contest earlier today.  The contest was sponsored by the Greenwood Meijer store and held in conjunction with the store's state-wide Grand Opening celebration.  The contest was between four Meijer store employees and 4 members of the fire department and was held in the store's food court.  The winner would be the one who could eat the most watermelon within the three minute time frame.  The watermelon was weighed before and then after the contest to determine who had eaten the most watermelon in terms of weight.  The winner of the contest, along with the fifth, seventh, and eighth places went to Meijer store employees.  Second place went to Chris Polanco, a two-year cadet with the fire department.  Third place went to Lieutenant Steve Rowland (who also helped organize the event).  Fourth place went to firefighter Greg Maxwell and sixth place went to firefighter Jason Arkins.  The following photos were taken by the Meijer store.
