Local firefighter to compete in World Police and Fire Games

Scott Cassin, 32, of the White River Township Fire Department will become the agency’s first competitor in the World Police and Fire Games.  Cassin, a battalion chief, is now eligible for the games as one of the requirements is that an entrant must be from a full-time department.  Cassin was hired full-time by the department in 1999 after 13 years as a volunteer and part-time firefighter.  Cassin will enter into the table tennis division of the games.  “I’ve been playing since middle school,” Cassin said.  “I thought that would be an opportunity to at least do something with the game that I was interested in,” he added.  The games get underway in downtown Indianapolis next month.  The games are held every two years and at different cities throughout the world.  Bryan Arkins, shown in the photo below, represented the department by carrying the torch in the torch run leading up to the event.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
