Man burned in home garage explosion
A Greenwood man who was burned in an explosion in his garage Monday remains hospitalized in the Wishard burn unit. Benji Vinard was working on a minivan in a detached garage at 5056 Russell Lane. Leaking fuel apparently came into contact with a flame in the garage and ignited, causing the fuel tank to explode at about 2:54 p.m. Monday. Vinard suffered first, second and third-degree burns to his chest, back and arms. He was rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he remained in the burn unit Friday in stable condition. Further information was not available Friday. White River Township firefighters got the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, said Lt. Joel Thacker. Although the detached garage was heavily damaged, the house was not touched. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
