Fire department honored

       The White River Township Fire Department was honored recently with the 1998 Life Safety Achievement Award.  The award, given by the Residential Fire Safety Institute, recognizes local fire prevention activities that contributed to reducing the number of people killed in house fires.  White River Township had zero fire deaths in 1998.  Nationally, house fires account for only 20 percent of all fires but result in 80 percent of fire deaths.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
