Harrowing event highlights festival

There’s going to be a bad accident in White River Township next weekend.  The fire department will have to extract somebody from a car, and a Life Line helicopter from Methodist will be called in to help.  It should be pretty entertaining.  The mock rescue will take place during the White River Strawberry Festival, conducted annually to raise money for the White River Township Fire Department.  The festival takes place at Sugar Grove Elementary School, 4135W. Smith Valley Road, on two days; from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. June 25 and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 26.  During the festival, strawberry shortcakes will be sold, and several demonstrations will be offered.  Proceeds from the event help the department pay for equipment and training supplies.  “We usually get $1,000 to $2,000, said Casey Arkins of the WRT Fire Department.  But the event also allows residents an opportunity to see its fire protection up Close.  “It’s mainly to get people to look at the fire trucks and talk to the firefighters and see what we do,” Arkins said (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
