Local fire departments receive $500 grants

Several fire departments in Johnson County recently received funds to go toward the purchase of carbon monoxide testing equipment.  The $500 grants were given by Indiana Gas Co. to a total of 241 fire departments throughout central and southern Indiana. Local fire departments that received the grants included White River Township, Whiteland, Needham, Nineveh and Edinburgh.  Fire Marshal Eric Brown said the White River Township department put the money toward the purchase of two carbon monoxide detectors. The detectors will be used during emergency calls where carbon monoxide, gas or fuel leaks, or a funny smell is reported.  According to Brown, without the detectors, the presence of carbon monoxide —a colorless, tasteless gas that can kill — would not be found(Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
