Man sets self on fire
A Greenwood man was in fair condition Tuesday after apparently setting himself on fire, police said. The man, 37, suffered first- and second-degree burns over 36 percent of his body after dousing himself with gasoline and setting himself ablaze around 6 p.m. Sunday. Neighbors called firefighters to the man’s home in Glendale Trailer Park after the man had walked into a nearby field and set himself on fire. White River Township Fire Department division chief Eric Brown said the man was suicidal and “extremely intoxicated.” The man was standing in his driveway and had apparently extinguished the flames himself by the time Johnson County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters arrived. He suffered burns to his face, forearms and thighs, and his facial hair was singed. The man was rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was listed in fair condition Tuesday afternoon. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
