Fire contained to bedroom
A White River Township house fire that broke out in a bedroom at 487 Moccasin Road Thursday kept firefighters working for two hours to save the rest of the house. The 3:30 p.m. fire was contained to the room and was extinguished a half hour after firefighters arrived. However, smoke damage filtered throughout the house. Windows were broken out and the roof was damaged, but the structure was still intact. Firefighters were chain sawing the floor at 5 p.m. to prevent the fire from rekindling. The owners and residents weren’t home, although a family dog and cat in the house are in critical condition, said Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Pell. Neighbors reported the blaze when they noticed smoke coming from the home. Fifteen firefighters responded to the scene. Pell said none suffered from heat exhaustion or injury. Relatives caring for the home in the owners’ absence were called to the scene, but the owners have yet to be notified. Until they are, their names and the exact cause of the blaze won’t be released, Pell said. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
