Deputy keeps scene calm
The following was printed as a letter to the editor and reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal.
To the editor:
On April 9 we had an emergency at our
home which required help from our community. My wife and four daughters were in
the house when our youngest daughter, Lucy, (17 months) began having severe
convulsions. My wife immediately called 911 and was told that help was on the
way and to stay on the phone. First to arrive, in minutes, was Johnson County
Deputy Jim Mowery, followed by White River Fire and Rescue and Myer Ambulance.
My home was in an uproar with my wife trying to comfort our baby and calm our
frightened children while also trying to locate me, neighbors or family. Deputy
Mowery stepped in and took over and created order out of chaos. On behalf of my
family and myself, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Deputy Mowery and
tell him how much we appreciate both his professional handling of the situation
and his caring, humane treatment of our very frightened 6-year-old, Hannah. The
baby is better, having received fine care and our home is back to normal, but
none of us will ever forget the kindness and compassion of this good man. It is
comforting to know that in times of crisis we can look to and depend on such
well-trained and caring professionals at work in our community.
