Fire damages RV
An accidental fire Monday night destroyed a recreational vehicle that was a man’s temporary home. Perry Township firefighters were called to 5205 Bluff Rd. at 10:33 p.m. on a report of a motor home on fire. The blaze, which destroyed the RV was under control within 20 to 30 minutes. Because the area has no fire hydrants, Greenwood and White River Township firefighters brought tanks of water. Perry Township Fire Capt. Paul Smith said a man was living temporarily in the motor home, parked at a vacant lot owned by a friend. The man, whose name was not available, had a portable space heater inside the RV, but combustible items placed too close to it caught fire. Damage to the man’s belongings was estimated at $8,000 to $10,000 and to the RV, $8,000. The fire also damaged the exterior of a garage located on the lot. No one was injured. The RV was insured, but it was not known where the victim is now. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
