County filled
with array of activities
Johnson County
residents can enjoy an array of activities this weekend, from a strawberry
festival in White River Township to the annual Antique Tractor Show at Johnson
County Park. And between the two, there’s a Street fair in Franklin. The third
annual White River Township Fire Department Strawberry Festival opens at 4 p.m.
Friday and noon Saturday at Station 2, at 398 Meridian Park Drive, west of State
Road 135 on Fairview Road. The festival runs until dark both days. The annual
Antique Tractor Show, just east of Hoosier Horse Park on Schoolhouse Road, runs
from 7 a.m. until dark Friday through Sunday. The North Main Street Fair in
Franklin will be from 10 am. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Festival features berries
You can buy all the strawberry shortcake you want for $2.50 a plate at
the Strawberry Festival Friday and Saturday. But shortcake isn’t the only
attraction. At 6 p.m. Friday, the Ladies Auxiliaries from White River and
Greenwood fire departments will have a contest to see which team can topple a
barrel at 150 feet with a fire hose. At 7 p.m., the Johnson County Sheriff’s
Department will give a canine demonstration, and at 7:30 pm. Bargersville,
Greenwood and White River will have a firefighter combat challenge. Saturday at
noon, firefighters will have a water contest; at 1 p.m., Bargersville will have
a rope rescue demonstration; at 2 p.m., PSI Energy will have a live wire
demonstration; and at 3 p.m. Bargersville and Greenwood will have an automobile
extraction competition. Also on Saturday, a blood drive will be from 1 to 4p.m.
and WFMS95.5 FM will broadcast from the festival at 1 p.m. Helicopter rides
will be offered Friday and Saturday, and bands will entertain both days. Crash
dummies Vince and Larry will be on hand, as well as the Johnson County Red Cross
and Myers Ambulance. Kids can enjoy carnival games provided by the White River
Township Jaycees, video games and pony rides. Bargersville Senior Citizens will
host a bake sale.
