Lightning sparks damaging fire
Lightning struck a house up to two hours before a fire broke out that nearly destroyed the home. A severe thunderstorm rolled through the area earlier in the day producing high winds, heavy rain, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Neighbors who noticed heavy smoke coming from the roof of the home, located in the Brentridge subdivision, called the fire department. "Fire was already through the roof and well-advanced by the time our first engine arrived," said Fire Chief Scott Cassin of the White River Township Fire Department. Investigators have determined the cause to be a lightning strike to a metal furnace flue on the rear of the residence. No damage estimate was available at press time.
