Annexation going to court
A
pre-trial date on a suit to prevent an annexation on Greenwood’s west side is
scheduled for Friday, May 25. A group of White River Township residents filed
suit in March to negate annexation along the State Road 135 corridor. The city
of Greenwood annexed about 480 acres of commercial and residential property
along S.R. 135, from County Line Road to Smith Valley Road during 1988 and 1989.
The White River Township group STOP (Stop Taking Our Property), object to being
involuntary annexed into Greenwood and paying higher taxes. The group hired
attorney Doug Kessler to represent it in the annexation suit. Kessler asked for
and was granted a new judge to hear the litigation. Judge Jack Tandy of Shelby
County will pre-side at the pre-trial at the Johnson County Circuit Court. On
May 25, the judge will establish a hearing or trial date, within 30 to 60 days
following the pre-trial, Kessler said.
