Fire destroys farmhouse on Fairview Road

White River Township firefighters responded to an almost fully-involved house fire earlier today that destroyed the vacant farmhouse.  The fire at the former Schrekengast property in the 3800 block of west Fairview Road was started accidentally by an intoxicated man who broke into the home hours earlier.  The sheriff's department arrested that individual.  Ironically, just a month ago, the fire department was attempting to purchase the property to build a fire station there.  The move however was later defeated by a denial of the project by the Johnson County Board of Zoning.  No one was injured during the early morning blaze, but the home was a total loss.  No damage estimate was available at press time.
