Fire station or barn?

White River Township firefighters will convert a barn into a fire station if their planned purchase of a 33.3 acre Johnson County farm goes through.  The Fire Department plans to buy a farm on Fairview Road, just west of the Indiana Railroad tracks northeast of Greenwood, to create a second fire station in the district.  The existing barn would be converted to house fire trucks and other equipment, while the farmhouse would become living quarters for firefighters.  The land will cost $240,000 and remodeling is expected to be about $50,000.  Neighbors have been concerned that a shopping center would be built on the land.  Others have asked why the Fire Department needs so much land.  An informal meeting of fire officials and neighbors will be at 8 p.m. Friday in North Grove Elementary School.
