Child rescued from pool

An Easter Sunday visit with relatives nearly turned to tragedy for an Indianapolis family when their 18-month-old child fell into a swimming pool. But, the child, Roderick Witter II, was revived by White River Township fire rescue workers, before suffering any serious injuries. The incident occurred at the home of the toddler’s grandparents, 4813 Brent- ridge Court in the Brent ridge Subdivision. White River fire rescue workers and Myers Ambulance personnel were called at 2:12 p.m., after relatives pulled the boy from the water. Firefighter Randy Gruner said the boy was unconscious when the fire rescue truck arrived. “We opened his airway and got air going to him, and he was responsive by the time (Myers) medics got there,” Gruner said. “Everybody did a good job.” Gruner said no one at the home saw the boy fall into the in-ground pool, which was covered at the time, “but it couldn’t have been to long. Any longer, and we wouldn’t have been able to do anything.” The boy was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in satisfactory condition this morning.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
