Fire's cause unknown
White River Township firefighters have not yet determined the cause of a house fire that injured a Smith Valley woman and her neighbor Wednesday morning. The fire was reported at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday at the Charles and Peggy McDaniel residence, 5123 Russell Lane in Smith Valley. Peggy McDaniel and a neighbor, Larry Corrie of 5080 Russell Lane, were injured when they opened a door to the house after firefighters were called. McDaniel was treated at the scene for a cut on the left heel, and Corrie was treated at the scene for an injury to the hand.
Fire department spokeswoman Pat
McDaniel, no relation to the fire victims, said McDaniel and Corrie opened a
door to get a dog out of the house. The open door ventilated the fire, causing
an explosion that broke glass and blew McDaniel and Corrie away from the house.
Fire reports gave no estimate of damage to the house, but Pat McDaniel said it
was extensive. She said fire investigators had not determined the cause as of
Friday night.
