Tornado strikes White River Township

At approximately 1:45 p.m. today, an estimated F3 tornado ripped through the heart of White River Township and traveled east through the city of Greenwood leaving a fifteen mile long path of destruction.  The tornado came with little warning as it ripped roofs from homes and businesses, snapped utility poles, and even toppled vehicles in its wake.  Most of the damage in White River Township was centered along Stones Crossing Road from about the railroad tracks on east.  The roof of the Mount Auburn Church was torn away from the building; however no one inside was injured.  Firefighters from Greenwood and White River Township spent the afternoon searching collapsed homes and buildings in the direct path looking for any trapped victims.  The damage estimate is expected to reach into the millions (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
