Agencies to critique accident cleanup
Johnson County Civil Defense Wednesday morning will critique the effort to clean up hazardous materials spilled when a semi tractor trailer had an accident off State Road 37 north of Smith Valley Road earlier this month. Civil defense director Sam Williams will meet with officials from the state and local boards of health and representatives of the agencies that assisted in the handling of the January 9th incident. The discussion will focus on how to better manage hazardous materials problems.
About 200 gallons of diesel fuel spilled
from the wrecked semi, and workers from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department,
White River Township Volunteer Fire Department, Bargersville Volunteer Fire
Department and Greenwood Fire Department helped stop the fuel from flowing into
a White River tributary. Officials also were concerned about paint thinner
products on the semi that leaked onto the ground after the accident.
